Minecraft, the simple block building game that has sold over 100 million units, has now been sold to Microsoft for $2.5 billion. Minecraft, developed by independent developer, Mojang, first picked up steam back in 2009 when the alpha was first publicly released on PC. Five years later, Minecraft is now on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Android, iOS, Mac, Linux, and with plans to release on PS Vita. Markus "Notch" Perrson, the founder of Mojang and brain behind Minecraft will be leaving the company as it is handed over to Microsoft. He posted online after the deal was made saying "It's not about the money. It's about my sanity." Notch, recently opened up about the burden of owning Minecraft, which became much larger than he ever thought possible. Although Microsoft is the creator of Xbox, they plan to continue development and support of the game on all devices and platforms following it's aquisition of Mojang and Minecraft. Microsoft's official statement can be found here.
I'm just glad it was sold to Microsoft and not Apple.
